Super Kids Reading Camp
A four week summer camp, Monday - Friday, focuses on the reading needs of K-5th grade students and is tailored to enhance their reading skills. While students typically backslide during the summer, our students who speak English as a second language tend to backslide even more. This summer camp is focused on minimizing that and readying them for the next school year. The camp includes breakfast and lunch, swimming, school shoes and book bags with school supplies for each of the 300+ students attending at our Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero and Fort Myers sites.
Reading Skills Development
Students are broken into small groups by grade level and taught reading skills by public school teachers hired by New Horizons. The staff of teachers focuses on the individual student needs and tailors their teaching to enhance the children's reading skills.
Individualized Learning in Reading
Utilizing a cloud-based computer lab, each child is assessed and then provided an individualized learning program that targets the specific needs of the student. The software, A+Learning System, is aligned with Sunshine State Standards.
Additionally, students have 30 minutes daily for a character education lesson based on core values of honesty, integrity and personal responsibility using puppets, songs and drama.
Breakfast and Lunch Served
Students receive breakfast and lunch from the Collier and Lee Counties Summer Food Program each day of the camp. Their families' low income levels qualify the students for the food program. Serving the students a nutritious meal enables them to concentrate and learn better.
Back to School Shoes, Book Bags and School Supplies
Through a partnership with Laces of Love and individual donors, our students receive the shoes they need to return to school. In partnership with local churches, our students receive book bags and school supplies they need to start back to school in August.
